Change of Venue !

Initially, my intention was to run the 2010 Virgin London Marathon. After being unsuccessful in the Ballot, I was offered a Golden Bond place to run for Children with Leukaemia which I accepted. My Wife and I pledged to raise £4000.

After writing to many businesses for donations and exploring various different avenues of fundraising and considering the current financial climate, we were forced to reconsider our pledge.

I decided to forego our Golden Bond places for the London Marathon in favour of a paid entry to the Edinburgh Marathon. This had benefits of a logistical nature with us both being in based in Scotland and also, enabled training to run alongside fundraising.

My wife has decided that on the day she will look after our children so I am now on my own !

All donations received will still go to our selected charity and we hope to receive lots more than we currently have (approx. £30!).

Real fundraising efforts will follow after Christmas – So watch out all who know me !

5k run – 36.57

I have not been out for a while as I have been mentally preparing myself for the change in climate ! The evenings are darker and colder and my motivation seems to be taking longer to kickstart into action !

Get Up and Get Motivated !

I managed to run 5k in 36.57 which is slower than my first 5k race (but that was a race !) and I am beginning to think seriously now about increasing my weekly mileage.

An 16 week Marathon training will commence Christmas/New Year time so my main focus is to be able to run continiously for 45 mins to 1hr….so nearly there !

7.5km today – Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Watch

Every boy needs his toys….Bring on the Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Watch !

Garmin Forerunner 305

As a user of Nike+, I quickly got disheartened with the inaccurate distances and lack of information so decided to bite the bullet and “invest” in a GPS watch. This is my first wrist mounted GPS (the other Garmin resides in the car) and today, the postie delivered it special delivery. I unwrapped the well packaged parcel, plugged in the docking cradle and left it to charge.

After 10 mins (sorry, but I couldn’t wait for the full charge !), I set off on a run not knowing where I would end up.

7.50 kilometres later and I am one happy Garmin owner…within five minutes of returning, all results were uploaded to SportTracks. Okay, my times cant be compared with Usain Bolt however, step by step, day by day, I will get there…

Route 1

Accepted !

5km – 35.47mins

Just updating the blog with the finishing time for the Dundee 5km race last Sunday.  The course was very hilly and from a cold start, we had to endure 2km uphill on multi terrain.  This was then followed by a downhill 1.5km and a flat for the remainder of the race.

The race was well attended (approx 300) and a decent goody bag was had by all !

Here’s to 10km in October at Scone Palace ;)

One Week to Holiday !

In just under one week, we are jetting off to sunnier climates…and yes, I am taking my running trainers !

Did not manage to run this weekend however, did a 5km run on Thursday in 34 mins (new PB both pace and distance !) and now I know I can run the full 5km required for the race in August.

I just need to continue improving my pace and I want to complete the race in under 30 mins…

Have just applied for a Golden Bond place with another charity (http://leukaemia.org) and we are hoping that our application as a Husband and Wife team is accepted !

Heres hoping !
